About the work
“Africa Girl” is the first work of Projeto Afro and the reason the project exists. Over an afrobeat instrumental, the track brings together the voices of Leo Maverick and Kadyn, in Brazil, and Medisson Diplomata, in Mozambique.
Recording happened across two continents. Medisson laid down his vocals at Impala Beats studio, in the district of Milange, and sent the files to Brazil, where the production team assembled the track. It is his debut in music and film.
The music video was filmed in Blantyre, Malawi — the country bordering Milange — with Leo Maverick’s and Kadyn’s scenes shot in Brazil. Directed by Mael Duarte, for Amazonia Beats.
During production the project ran under the working title “Africa Lady”; the final title is “Africa Girl”.
