Leo Maverick
Singer, songwriter, music producer and independent filmmaker. Director of the audiovisual company Amazonia Beats.
Who he is
Leo Maverick is a Brazilian singer, songwriter and music producer. Born in Pernambuco and raised in Brasília, he has worked in urban music for over two decades. His work blends rap, trap, reggaeton and African rhythms, shaping a musical identity that bridges cultures and generations. With more than twenty music videos released and songs in Portuguese, Spanish and English, he leads and directs the Reggaeton Tropical project, an initiative to develop Latin rhythms in Brazil through audiovisual production — as reported by the Brazilian outlet Cultura e Negócios in May 2022.
His productions carry two distinct marks: a tropical, warm feel in reggaeton, and a cyberpunk, futuristic aesthetic in Latin trap. That duality of sound and image is part of what sets him apart — he directs his own videos, so the musical and the visual result come from the same head.
The name comes from the English word maverick: independent, someone who thinks for themselves. In Brazil it also echoes the Ford Maverick, a 1970s classic.

In Projeto Afro
Leo Maverick is the one who set the encounter in motion: it was through a Facebook post of his — about Reggaeton Tropical, specifically about “Navegar”, which he describes as a turning point in his career — that Medisson Diplomata reached him, from Mozambique. The conversation became a friendship of years and, now, a work.
On “Africa Girl” he signs vocals, songwriting and the direction of the music video, filmed in Blantyre, Malawi, and in Brazil. Out 18 September 2026.
