What it is

A working bridge

Projeto Afro is a cultural exchange initiative between Brazilian and African artists, produced by the audiovisual company Amazonia Beats under the direction of Leo Maverick, in Brasília, Brazil.

It starts from a simple observation: the reggaeton, rap and Latin trap produced in Brazil share a rhythmic root with the music made in Africa — and that root is almost always treated as distant influence, never as an encounter. The project exists to make the encounter happen in practice: writing, recording and filming together, with real participation and credit.

Why now

A change of direction

Leo Maverick and Kadyn come from careers that began in the 1990s in the urban scene of Brazil’s Federal District — rap, hip hop, trap — and that in recent years turned towards the Latin market, with a catalogue of reggaeton sung in Portuguese, Spanish and English.

Projeto Afro marks the change of route: production and outreach now address the African continent. Not as a market to be exploited, but as a counterpart — seeking artists, studios and audiences in Mozambique, Nigeria, Malawi and beyond.

How it works

The method

• 1 · The encounterCollaboration begins with direct contact between artists — as it did with Medisson Diplomata, who reached the project through Facebook, from Mozambique.
• 2 · Distributed writing and recordingEach artist records where they are, in the studio they have. Files travel; the production team assembles the work.
• 3 · FilmEvery work gets a music video, shot in the countries involved. Film is what gives the music a face and a place.
• 4 · Public documentationCredits, dates and materials published on this site — so that the collaboration is verifiable, not merely announced.

The first work

Africa Girl

An afrobeat track bringing together Leo Maverick, Kadyn and Medisson Diplomata. The Mozambican vocals were recorded at Impala Beats studio, in the district of Milange, and sent to the production team in Brazil. It is Medisson’s debut — first song and first music video.

The video was filmed in Blantyre, Malawi, the country bordering Milange, with the Brazilian scenes shot in Brazil. Out 18 September 2026 via ONErpm. See the full credits →

What we are seeking

Institutional dialogue

The project seeks dialogue with diplomatic missions and cultural institutions of Mozambique, Malawi and Nigeria, with three stated goals:

• Institutional supportTo be received by the embassies and to present the initiative as a cultural bridge between Brazil and the African countries involved.
• Artistic mobilityTo make it possible for Medisson Diplomata to come to Brazil, for recording, performance and continuity of the joint work.
• New collaborationsTo extend the project to other Mozambican, Nigerian and Malawian artists, with shared production and credit.
